Hi, I’m Mary —
and this is my
little corner.
I didn’t come from a landscaping background. I was just someone trying to make their yard feel more comfortable and usable — and make it feel like a place worth spending time in.
What started as a
personal need
Yardolio started simply — I needed to figure out my own outdoor space and couldn’t find content that felt grounded in reality. Most of what I found was either too polished, too curated, or written for people with professional landscaping teams and unlimited weekends.
So I started paying attention differently. Neighborhood walks. Quiet mornings outside. Noticing what actually worked in real yards rather than curated photo shoots. Over time, those observations turned into notes, and those notes turned into Yardolio.
I live in Texas, where outdoor spaces are a big part of everyday life. Warm evenings, long summers, and the kind of light that makes you want to sit outside — those things shape what I write about and how I think about yards.
Before Yardolio, I spent years working in home improvement retail, where I helped hundreds of homeowners figure out what they actually needed for their outdoor projects. That experience — listening to real people describe real problems with their real yards — is what shaped how I think and write about outdoor spaces. Not theory. Not trend reports. Just the questions people actually ask and the answers that actually help.
What Yardolio
is built on
Everything here is written for yards that actually exist — with real constraints, real schedules, and real tradeoffs. If an idea only works in a styled photo shoot, it probably won’t make it onto this site.
Beyond just ideas — real questions get real answers. How does it work? What do you actually need? What should you watch out for? That’s the kind of content I try to write.
Yards don’t need to be finished all at once. I believe in slow, intentional improvements — small changes that add up and make a space feel more like yours over time.

Yardolio
Shaped by
everyday life
I spend a lot of time simply observing how people use their outdoor spaces — not just how they look in photos. Those everyday moments often influence what I share more than trends ever could.
Slow mornings and calm evenings, especially during long Texas summers. Being outside during those quieter hours often brings the best ideas naturally.
Walking around and noticing how neighbors use shade, fences, and seating has taught me a lot about what feels welcoming and what doesn’t.
Reading, saving inspiration, and making small changes over time. Outdoor spaces don’t need to be finished all at once — they grow alongside the people using them.
